MCU Engineering ensures water & wastewater development follows the LDC* from planning & reviewing stages to final project clearance.  LDC design and construction standards are available online; last revised 4/13/23. 

Senior Engineer/Engineer

  • Oversight of MCU’s Capital Improvement Program plans design
  • Support for RGBs to assist others developing utility system designs
  • Modeling of Countywide utility systems
  • Finds & implements grant opportunities to offset owner costs for water main extensions, and septic-to-sewer initiatives
  • Maintains Marion County Land Development Code (“LDC”) design and construction standards
  • Reviews and approves engineers’ online FDOT permit applications

Permitting

  • Reviews site plans for utility applicability and LDC compliance
  • Applies, modifies, and releases building permit holds
  • Invoices for new service connections related to new permits
  • Creates new commercial customer accounts
  • Creates meter and service tap work orders for MCU Field Services
  • Creates water and wastewater pressure test work orders

New Development

  • Reviews site plans for Development Review projects including Major and Minor Site Plans, Improvement Plans, Plats, and Utility Plans
  • Provides MCU plant data to engineers for FDEP permit applications
  • Assists developers with utility-related waivers
  • Ensures Pretreatment standards for fats, oils, grease, hair, fur, sand or petroleum products discharged in to the wastewater collection system
  • Determines Developer Agreement applicability, and support (as applicable)
  • Calculates water & wastewater capacity charges per LDC
  • Handoff of approved development projects to MCU Construction for buildout, certification, connection, and closeout.

Private Water Main Extension

Asset Management/GIS Mapping

  • Acquires GPS data for utility infrastructure installations through field visits and modern survey equipment
  • Maintains MCU’s GIS layer using as-builts and state plane data through project closeout
  • Updates the county’s online Interactive Map Utility layers which offers assistance to those researching central water availability
